This is an original 1938 photo of Seabiscuit #6 with George Woolf in third place going past the stands the first time in the Havre de Grace Handicap.
Menow #9 with Leon Haas is in first place with Savage Beauty #2 and George Seabo second. Seabiscuit would win the race with Savage Beauty second and Menow, in his final race, third. Seabiscuit is one of most favorite racehorses of all! Like Man O' War, Better mares would have left more winning foals. He was just amazing. Jockeys styles have sure changed - riding so low really freed those hindquarters of the horses to dig into their power. Look at the jockey's riding stances. Even early in the race, some are right down on the horses necks.
